Today, we’re excited to announce the launch of mobile.dev and our $3M seed round led by Cowboy Ventures!
Despite the impressive advancements in mobile technology, many apps are still plagued by 1-star reviews, users suffer from basic mobile app quality issues and companies rely on outdated reactive strategies to address these problems. At mobile.dev, we are setting a new standard for mobile development empowering all companies to deliver high-quality mobile applications to their users.
We have witnessed firsthand the rapid progression of the mobile ecosystem. Our co-founder Leland, previous Tech Lead of Uber’s Mobile Platform Team, led the development of internal platforms to address the difficulties of modern mobile application development. His experience at Uber aligned with what many others were seeing in the mobile community: standard tooling is not keeping up with the pace of mobile innovation. Mobile companies have long since outgrown the basic tooling provided by Google and Apple, and deserve better.
We’re starting by tackling the most glaring issue facing the mobile ecosystem today: mobile application quality.
Often we see companies leveraging production monitoring to help identify app quality issues. There are advantages to this approach like the ability to understand trends in real user behavior, but there are some clear downsides. Relying solely on production monitoring is a reactive strategy that sacrifices users and wastes valuable engineering resources.
At mobile.dev, we’re building a platform that allows companies to proactively catch and address quality issues before releasing to production. We plug seamlessly into the CI process to block any code change that degrades the application, and when an issue is detected, developers are able to quickly debug the problem using our industry-leading root cause analysis tooling.
Some of the leading mobile companies in the world are already partnering with us to capture the benefits of our shift-left approach. Reddit, one of our first customers, is leveraging mobile.dev to save thousands of engineering hours, and to ensure they ship the highest quality version of their app to their users.
“Historically, our team has relied on manual processes for finding performance issues during development. Our integration with mobile.dev has allowed us to ‘shift-left’ by automatically finding and addressing quality issues before we ship products. As our team continues to grow, we’ll be able to focus more on building rather than chasing down problems in production.”
- Saad Rehmani, VP Engineering, Reddit
Today, our platform offers best-in-class performance benchmarking that allows companies to confidently detect slow-downs in their applications. In the future, our platform will expand to cover a wide range of other areas of analysis like networking, memory usage, binary size, disk usage, battery consumption, and security.
In addition to Cowboy Ventures, we’re excited to be backed by an amazing group of co-investors and angels. These include investors Tim Chen from Essence VC, Forum Ventures and the Uber’s angels syndicate Moving Capital; Android leaders Ty Smith and Pierre-Yves Ricau; DevOps founders Ben Sigelman from Lightstep, Marco Palladino from Kong, Tuomas Artman from Linear and Luciano Cheng; and operators including Surahbi Gupta from Robinhood, Emilie Choi from Coinbase, Mike Curtis from Airbnb and Ceci Stallsmith from Slack among others!
We’re an ambitious and motivated team looking for world-class people to join us on our mission. If you’re interested in early access or want to help build the next big thing in mobile development, please reach out to hello@mobile.dev or check out our job posts.
